Below are some interesting Social Studies facts:
In the 2004 presidential election, the state of Ohio was focused on because of the Provisional Ballot Situation. A Provisional Ballot is something you do if you show up at the poll and they dont have your name on the list. You ask for a provisional Ballot which you fill out. Then the election judge adjudicates (decides if its a legal ballot) it. If youre registered and everything checks out, your vote counts, if not - it doesn't. Who do you think might not have been allowed a provisional ballot?
Right now (2006) there is a genocide (killing off of a complete race or group of people) going on in Darfur Sudan!!!! The Sudanese government and the Arab "Janjaweed" militias (Groups of men on horseback who go around killing black Arabs) it supports have committed numerous attacks on the black Africans in Sudan. Government forces directly participated in massacres, executions (of both men, women and children) and burnings of villages. The Janjaweed are Muslim like the African groups they attack. They have destroyed mosques (the Muslim equivalent of a Christian church), Murdered Muslim religious leaders, and destroyed Qorans (a Muslim holy book) belonging to their enemies. This has been going on since 2004. Is it ok that this is going on? What can Americans do about this?
